Final Results

The Missouri State men's golf team routed an eight-team field at the Coyote Classic in Dakota Dunes, S.D. on Tuesday (Sept. 22), posting a 27-stroke victory and capturing three of the top five spots in the medalist race.

The Bears held an 11-shot advantage after yesterday's 36 holes, but a one-over-par 289 in the final round was 14 shots better than anyone else in the field and enabled them to cruise to the victory. Their 307-299-289--895 in three trips around the par 72, 6788-yard Dakota Dunes Country Club, gave them the win over runnerup Northern Iowa, which shot 310-309-303--922. Green Bay and SIUE tied for fourth with 925, followed by North Dakota (931), host South Dakota (932), UNO (946) and North Dakota State (955).

MSU senior Joey Johnson finished second after tying for first in regulation, but losing on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff for medalist honors to Green Bay's Joe Duchateau. Johnson led by two entering the day and shot 73, but Duchateau rallied with a 71 to tie the two at 220, four over par. Johnson posted rounds of 74-73-73, while Duchateau had 73-76-71.

Freshman Adam Fisher finished third overall for the Bears, firing 80-73-69--222, while senior Brik Brauburger claimed fifth with 75-79-72--226. Freshman Kory Franks carded 79-77-75--231 to tie for 11th, and senior Mitch Mather tied for 24th with 79-76-82--237.

The Bears will go for two in a row next Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 28-29) at the Derek Dolenc Invitational in Edwardsville, Ill.
