Bears, Johnson Lead After Two Rounds at South Dakota

Joey Johnson led the way for the Missouri State men's golf team Monday (Sept. 21) as both the team and the Bear senior have the lead entering Tuesday's final 18 holes at the Coyote Classic in Dakota Dunes, S.D. Johnson has a two-stroke lead after firing 74-73--147, three over par, and MSU has an 11-shot margin after posting 307-299--606.

Green Bay is the Bears' closest pursuer after carding 306-311--617, with Northern Iowa two more strokes back with 310-309--619. SIUE is fourth with 620, followed by North Dakota (624), host South Dakota (629), UNO (633) and North Dakota State (642). The tourney is being played at the par 72, 6788-yard Dakota Dunes Country Club.

Johnson is one of four Bears in the top 10 after the first day, two shots ahead of Green Bay's Joe Duchateau, who shot 73-76--149. MSU freshman Adam Fisher is tied for sixth with 80-73--153, while senior Brik Brauburger is another shot back at 75-79--154 and in ninth place. Senior Mitch Mather is tied for 10th after carding 79-76--155, and freshman Kory Franks shot 79-77--156 and is tied for 15th.

Tuesday's final round is slated for a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
