Banquet Info
SPRINGFIELD - The Missouri State cross country and track and field teams will be hosting their 4th annual awards banquet and silent auction on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 12 p.m. at the Ramada Oasis Grand Ballroom in Springfield.
Tickets for the event are $25 a person. The silent auction will begin at 12 p.m., followed by dinner and awards. The event is open to the public, and tickets are available by contacting head coach Ron Boyce at (417) 836-4717. All proceeds from the event and silent auction will be used to benefit the programs.
The Bears will take one last look at the 2014-15 seasons at this year's awards banquet and silent auction. Various awards will be given based on class, area of competition (track, field, and cross country), and overall team spirit.
Boyce will return six of his seven NCAA regional qualifiers and seven outdoor all-conference performers this season. Last season, three Bears shattered school records in the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Oarabile Babolayi, now a senior, broke the 60 meter hurdle record last indoor season and then took another four seconds off of her time to hold the two fastest times at MSU.
As a freshman, Georgia Richardson broke the pole vault record during the outdoor season and continued to break her own record. Richardson now holds the top-five highest vaults at MSU, with the best mark being 3.62 meters. During her freshman season, Melanie Raterman broke MSU's hammer throw record (48.66 meters) by over a meter (49.82 meters). In 2015, Raterman broke her own record by throwing 51.67 meters at the MVC Outdoor Championships.
The Bears were able to pick up more accolades at the end of last season. Babolayi, Shani Adams, Althia Maximilien, and Rosalie Pringle earned all-conference honors for their 4x400 meter relay performances at the indoor and outdoor championships. All-MVC honors are given to student-athletes that finish in the top-three at the indoor and outdoor championships.
At the indoor MVC Championships, Maximilien brought home a second all-conference honor after finishing second in the 400 meter dash. Teammate Robiann Broomfield joined Maximilien by taking second place in the triple jump to round out indoor honors.
Babolayi and Broomfield led the way for the Bears at the outdoor conference championship by winning the 400 meter hurdles and long jump, respectively. Likewise, Marissa Kurtimah (200 meter dash), Broomfield (triple jump), and Holly Pattie-Belleli (heptathlon) brought home all-conference honors for earning the bronze medal in their events.
Four MSU standouts were placed on the MVC 2015 Scholar-Athlete Team. Broomfield, Maximilien, Betsy Borgsmiller, and Shavonne Husbands represented the Bears on the scholar-athlete team by maintaining at least a 3.20 GPA, were at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, and placed in the top eight at the Indoor or Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2015.
