MSU Men Currently Seventh at ISU Mens Golf Meet

Normal, Ill. - After 36 holes at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate, the Missouri State men's golf team sits alone in seventh place with 18 holes to play here in the Bears' first meet of the 2015-16 season.

Host Illinois State has compiled a seven-over-par 575 after two rounds to take a sizeable lead over the rest of the 18-team field with Central Arkansas (587) 12 strokes back, followed by Western Illinois (588), Bradley (590), Nebraska (593), IPFW (593) and Missouri State (594). Southern Illinois (595), Detroit (596) and Oakland (597) round out the top 10 teams.

The 96-player field includes MSU senior Joey Johnson who is tied for 26th place with a six-over 148. Johnson turned in an even-par 72 in the second round Sunday. Bears' Freshman Adam Fisher has matched Johnson's scored through 36 holes and shares 26th place headed into the final day.

Missouri State senior Brik Brauburger is tied for 44th place (+9), along with sophomore Brian Rogers (+9), while senior Mitch Mater sits in 59th place (+11).

As a team, coach Neal Stafford's Bears are averaging 3.23 strokes on par 3 holes through the first two rounds, which is second-best in the field. MSU leads all teams with 112 pars, but has collected just 14 birdies and one eagle.

The 54-hole tournament concludes Monday at the 6,915-yard Illinois State University Golf Course as MSU looks to gain ground on the front runners in the final round.
