SPRINGFIELD - The Missouri State Bears men's soccer team played tough defensively in their first of three exhibition contests Friday night at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
The Bears scored a goal on the Vikings' starting goalkeeper Albert Balsells in the 9th minute to give MSU the advantage. Freshman Conor Ingram saw an opening down the field and with the help of teammate Phil Woods, Ingram was able to get the ball in the back of the net just right of the goalie.
MSU out-shot Missouri Valley 14-2 in the match. Goalkeeper Liam Priestley was the only one to see any action tonight in the net for the Bears. Priestley got a save in the 27th minute to prevent Disema Mzolo from tying the game. Andrew Dittemore came into the game in the 59th minute to finish protecting the net for the Bears.
The Bears will continue preseason exhibition play with two matches in Oklahoma next week. Sunday, MSU travels to Northeastern State University at 5 p.m., before concluding the preseason schedule on Aug. 21 at Tulsa, also at 5 p.m.
