World University Games | 100-meter Dash Results | Kurtimah Bio
GWANJU, SOUTH KOREA -- Missouri State sprinter Marissa Kurtimah (Guelph, Ontario) finished 13th in the women's 100-meter dash today (July 9) at the World University Games.
Her time of 11.71 in the first of three semifinal heats shaved more than one-tenth of a second off her preliminary round time (11.84) from Tuesday and placed her sixth in her heat of eight runners. Her mark was the 13th-best among the 24 semifinalists -- and best among all participants from North America -- but came up one-tenth of a second shy of the cut to advance to tomorrow's finals.
The junior-to-be at MSU is part of a 41-athlete contingent from her home nation of Canada at the World University Games, which run July 2-14, and include competition in 21 sports. The track and field portion of the games concludes July 12.
She is coming off an all-conference sophomore season for Coach Ron Boyce's team at MSU, where she finished third at the MVC Outdoor meet in the 200-meter dash and was an NCAA Regional qualifier in both the 100- and 200-meter dash events, finishing 14th and 40th, respectively, in those events at the NCAA West Prelims in Austin, Texas. Her best 100-meter time of the 2015 outdoor season -- 11.37 in the national quarterfinals in Austin -- would have been the second-fastest time of today's World University Games semifinal heats.
Teammate Oarabile Babolayi (Mosetse, Botswana) was also set to run at the World University Games for her native country in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdle events but withdrew earlier this week.
Missouri State head coach Ron Boyce will return six of his seven NCAA regional qualifiers and seven outdoor all-conference performers next season in hopes of improving on the club's fourth-place showing at the 2015 MVC Outdoor Championships.
