ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Valley Conference has announced its 2015 Track and Field All-Conference and Scholar-Athlete recipients on Wednesday, and Missouri State University was well represented on both teams.
Standouts Robiann Broomfield (Jr., Psychology, 3.79 GPA), Betsy Borgsmiller (Jr., Physical Education, 3.62 GPA), Althia Maximilien (Sr., Hospitality & Restaurant Administration, 3.23 GPA) and Shavonne Husbands (Jr., Construction Management, 3.20 GPA) were the three Bears on the 2015 Scholar-Athlete Team. This honor is given to student-athletes who have maintained at least a 3.20 GPA, are at least a sophomore in academic and athletic standing, and placed in the top eight at the Indoor or Outdoor Track and Field Championship in 2015. A total of 59 women and 58 men throughout the league earned the honor.
MSU's outdoor all-conference representatives were: Broomfield (long jump champion and third-place in triple jump); Oarabile Babolayi (400-meter hurdles champion); Holly Pattie-Belleli (third in heptathlon); and Marissa Kurtimah (third in 200-meter dash). Members of the MVC runner-up 4x400-meter relay team also earned All-MVC distinction with Husbands, Babolayi, Rosalie Pringle and Shani Adams claiming league laurels.
Brandon Carnes of UNI and Katie Wise of Indiana State took home the Missouri Valley Conference Outstanding Track Athlete honors following the championship, while Josh Freeman and Raven Saunders of Southern Illinois received Outstanding Field Athlete honors. UNI's Brandon Carnes, Illinois State's Anderson Devonish, and Wichita State's Nikki Larch-Miller were named the Missouri Valley Conference Most Valuable Athletes following stand-out performances at the conference championship.
Nathan Schuck of Southern Illinois and Emma Huston of Drake took home Elite 18 honors following the championship for not only their performances on the track and in the field, but in the classroom as well.
Missouri State placed fourth in the nine-team MVC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship last weekend in Normal, Ill. On Thursday, coach Ron Boyce's squad will learn which performers made the cut for the NCAA Division I national preliminary meet which begins May 28 in Austin, Texas.
