SPRINGFIELD -- Missouri State juniors Hillary Chvatal, Tyonna Snow and Kenzie Williams were honored Thursday with a total of four awards at MSU's annual postseason banquet. Williams was presented as the team MVP and top scholar-athlete, Chvatal received recognition as the Lady Bears' most improved player, and Snow was named the team's top defender.
A first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference selection and the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in women's basketball, Williams led the Lady Bears in scoring at 15.4 points per game, including a 16.1 average on 46 percent field goal shooting in conference games. She also averaged 5.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.9 steals while starting all 33 contests.
The Mt. Vernon, Mo., native ranked among the league's top 15 in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, assists, steals, free throw percentage, 3-pointers per game and 3-point percentage, scored in double figures 28 times, and joined the school's 1,000-point club in February. Williams ended the season ranked 18th in MSU history with 1,170 career points, and her 509 points on the year were the No. 16 season total in school history. The fourth-year junior maintains a 3.82 cumulative grade point average in elementary education.
Chvatal averaged 8.1 points and 7.6 rebounds in 31 starts, improving significantly on career averages of 1.9 points and 2.8 boards through her first two seasons. The Atwood, Kan., product finished the season ranked fourth in the MVC in rebounding and fifth with a .483 field goal percentage, shooting at least 50 percent from the floor in 18 contests, and grabbing at least 10 rebounds on nine occasions with four double-doubles.
Snow scored 93 points over the season's final four games to end the year with averages of 14.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.2 steals. Defensively, the Blue Springs, Mo., native ranked 11th nationally in steals per game, concluding the season second among active players with a career 2.83 average. Her 241 career steals rank sixth in MSU history and fifth among active NCAA players with eligibility remaining.
Snow joined MSU's 1,000-point club on March 15, and sits 24th on the career scoring list with 1,041 points. She was an all-MVC honorable mention pick and all-defensive selection in 2015.
The Lady Bears finished the 2014-15 season with an 18-15 overall record and 13-5 mark in MVC play for a third-place finish. After an 0-6 start and 8-13 record in mid-February, Missouri State reeled off 10 consecutive victories to advance to the MVC Tournament championship game and earn an at-large bid to the WNIT.
