ST. LOUIS - Missouri State junior Joey Johnson has been named Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Wednesday.

Johnson sparked the Bears to a second-place team finish at the ORU Shootout Tuesday, firing a 2-over 146 in a rain-shortened event at Forest Ridge Golf Club in Broken Arrow, Okla. Johnson, who tied for second individually, closed with a season-low 2-under 70, his fourth sub-par round of the season.

Johnson led the 75-player field in birdies with eight and par-4 scoring at 4-under.

An Ozark, Mo., native, Johnson also claimed the weekly award Feb. 25 and now has three for his career. The honor is the third for the MSU men's team this season as junior Mitch Mather also earned recognition from the conference for his play April 1.

Johnson is fifth in the Valley with a 74.2 scoring average heading into the conference tournament.

Missouri State is set to host the event at the Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo., on April 27-28.
