SPRINGFIELD - Former Missouri State men's soccer player Parker Maher is the latest Bear to sign a professional contract. Maher, who played at MSU under Coach Jon Leamy from 2011-2014, will be joining Saint Louis FC of the USL PRO this week.

"Parker is a quick, skillful, technical player," Saint Louis FC Head Coach Dale Schilly said. "He can play as an outside back or in various roles in the midfield. Fans will see a player who is quick to the ball and extremely active finding space without the ball. In addition, Parker possesses keen insight on how and when to get forward and join the attack."

Maher had a tremendous senior campaign. The Joplin, Mo., native started every game for the Bears his senior season and led the MVC regular season champions in minutes played. In 2014, Maher tallied a career high three assists and earned All-MVC Second Team honors. Maher has also been named to the MVC All-Tournament team in back-to-back seasons. Maher was an All-North/Central Region Academic First Team member in 2014, after being named to the second team in 2013.

"Making it to the next level is something that I am excited to do," said Maher. "Missouri State and the coaching staff have prepared me for this level and I am ready to make St. Louis a new home."

Maher signed a season contract and will begin preseason camp this Monday with the club.

"On behalf of the entire Missouri State soccer program, we could not be more proud of Parker and all that he has accomplished as a Bear," said Missouri State head soccer coach Jon Leamy.

Maher will make a return to Springfield with his new team as Saint Louis FC and Oklahoma City Energy FC compete in an exhibition on the Missouri State campus at Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium. The two USL PRO teams will play on March 5 at 6 p.m. with admission being $5 at the gate. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the family of Springfield police officer Aaron Pearson. Kids are welcome to stay following the game for an autograph session with both teams.
