Valley Lavishes Six Bears with League Hardware

Nov. 5, 2015

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Six Missouri State women's soccer players picked up year-end honors from the Missouri Valley Conference, as announced at the annual MVC awards banquet held in Evansville, Ind., on Thursday night. Senior Alix Opfer and sophomore Mary Disidore landed on the first team. Freshman Brooke Prondzinski was named to the All-MVC second team and All-Freshman team. Senior Jessica Perry and sophomore Brooke Zimmerman landed on the honorable mention squad and freshman Masen Stamp earned All-Freshman laurels.

Opfer was lauded first-team honors for the first time in her career after a break-out offensive senior season. An honorable mention pick in 2014, Opfer scored a team-high eight goals this season. She earned MVC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 1 after tallying the first four MSU goals of the season in a pair of wins. Opfer added four assists on the season for a total of 20 points, just the sixth player in program history to reach that point plateau in a single season. She played in all 73 matches of her four-year career with MSU and started 72 times.

Disidore also gets the first-team nod for the first time in her career after an honorable mention selection a year ago. A solid two-way midfielder, Disidore was the primary corner kick taker this season. She recorded an assist on the game-winning goal in the home opener against UMKC on Aug. 28, her fifth career assist. The Lenexa, Kan., native has started all 36 matches in her two seasons at Missouri State.

Prondzinski pockets a pair of league accolades after a fantastic first season at MSU. She scored three goals on the year, including the game-winner at home versus Western Illinois. Prondzinski assisted on eight goals, the most in the MVC, and her average of an assist every other match ranks 24th in the country. Three of her assists came on game-winning goals this year.

Perry earns her first year-end honor from the league after a solid senior campaign in net. She earned nine wins, the most by any MVC keeper, and held a respectable 1.27 goals against average. The St. Louis native kept three clean sheets this season giving her nine career shutouts in her three seasons at MSU, the fifth-most in school history. A three-time MVC Goalkeeper of the Week in her career, Perry played the fourth-most minutes in net over a career and racked up 17 career wins.

Zimmerman follows up her All-Freshman team accolade last season with an honorable mention pick this year. She earned MVC Offensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 20 after netting the game-winning goal over Illinois State. The sophomore has been clutch at the new home of the Bears tallying two game-winning goals this season at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium. She has four career game-winners, all at Allison South. The Stilwell, Kan., native also added two assists this season and has five goals and five assists in her two seasons at MSU.

Stamp notches All-Freshman team honors after playing in all 17 matches with five starts in her first season as a Bear. The MVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1, Stamp assisted on both goals in Missouri State's home-opening victory over UMKC.

The Bears finished the season 9-7-1 in 2015 and participated in the MVC Tournament for the 19th time in the 20-year history of the program. The nine wins are the most among all MVC teams and the most by the Bears since 2011.
