ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Missouri State women's soccer seniors Cassie Le and Alix Opfer were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete first team while sophomore Mary Disidore landed on the honorable mention squad, the league office announced on Tuesday (Nov. 24).
Le earned her third-consecutive first team honor, just the fourth MSU player to do so. She earned her third-straight Capital One Academic all-district first team honor in October, the only Bear ever to earn the distinction three times. Le was named the MVC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 this season. The White Bear Lake, Minn., native scored her first career goal this season, the game-winner at Little Rock. She also added three assists this season. Le is a biology major with a 3.95 cumulative grade point average.
Opfer picked up a first team honor after back-to-back honorable mention nods the last two seasons. She earned All-MVC first-team honors for the first time in her career after a break-out offensive senior season. Opfer scored a team-high eight goals this season and was named MVC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 1 after tallying the first four MSU goals of the season in a pair of wins. Opfer added four assists on the season for a total of 20 points, just the sixth player in program history to reach that point plateau in a single season. She played in all 73 matches of her four-year career with MSU and started 72 times. Springfield native, Opfer holds a 3.63 GPA as a dietetics major.
Disidore landed on the honorable mention team in her first season of eligibility for the league scholar awards. She picked up All-MVC first-team accolades for the first time in her career this season. A solid two-way midfielder, Disidore was the primary corner kick taker this season. She recorded an assist on the game-winning goal in the home opener against UMKC on Aug. 28, her fifth career assist. Disidore has started all 36 matches in her two seasons at Missouri State. A native of Lenexa, Kan., she holds a 3.95 grade point average as a special education major.
Missouri State finished the season 9-7-1 in 2015 and participated in the MVC Tournament for the 19th time in the 20-year history of the program. The nine wins were tied for the most among all MVC teams and the most by the Bears since 2011.
