Women's Golf Makes a Move at Little Rock Classic

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE, Ark. - The Missouri State women's golf team moved up three spots Monday (Nov. 2) and sits in fourth place entering the final round of the 15-team Little Rock Classic in Hot Springs Village, Ark.

The Bears posted 296 in the second round, the second-lowest score of the day, and moved into contention, two shots from third place, three from second and 13 behind leader Central Arkansas. UCA fired 292 to go with its first-round 295 for a 587 total, 10 in front of Oral Roberts (597) and 11 ahead of Houston Baptist (598).

Then comes MSU, followed by Little Rock (602), Wichita State (606), Eastern Michigan (608), Arkansas State (610), UTEP and Western Michigan (615), UMKC (618), Sam Houston State (619), South Alabama (625), Stephen F. Austin (628) and Louisiana Monroe (643).

Megan Furnish led the way for the Bears, firing a one-under-par 71 on the Diamante Country Club layout, just a shot off her career-low round. The senior from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, tallied 17 straight pars before draining a 30-foot downhill birdie putt on her final hole to place her in a tie for sixth place.

Sophomore Stine Pettersen is next for the Bears, tied for 15th with 77-73--150, a shot in front of classmate Verena Gimmy, who's tied for 19th with 74-77--151. Freshman Ashley Childers is tied for 33rd after shooting 79-75--154, and junior Caroline Boone is at 78-79--157, tied for 46th. Emma Svensson of UCA holds the individual lead after carding 69-67--136 over the first two rounds.

Tuesday's final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
