LINCOLN, Neb. - Missouri State sophomores Verena Gimmy and Stine Pettersen shot identical two-over par 218 scores at the Chip-N Club Invitational here to finish tied for sixth in the individual standings and help the Bears finish fourth overall in the team race Tuesday.
Coach Kevin Kane's Bears tallied rounds of 302-298-294--894 to finish 30-over as a team, just one stroke behind third-place Kansas (983) and four behind runner-up South Dakota State (890). Tournament champion Notre Dame dominated the 13-team field with a team score of 860.
Kansas standout Yupaporn Kawinpakorn won the individual flight with a four-under 212 after a final-round 68 on Tuesday on the par-72 course. Notre Dame occupied individual positions 2-5 with the Missouri State sophomore tandem of Gimmy and Pettersen locked into a four-way tie for sixth.
MSU senior Megan Furnish (230) tied for 24th, while freshman Fay Carpenter tied for 29th (231) and classmate Ashley Childers (233) tied for 32nd in the field of 75 individuals. Carpenter posted 14 pars on Tuesday, the second-most in the field.
The Bears continue their fall schedule next week when host their only home meet of the year, Monday and Tuesday at Twin Oaks Golf Course in Springfield. The MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial gets underway at 8:30 a.m., both days.
