Oct. 29, 2015

CoSIDA Release

GREENWOOD, Ind. - Two Misssouri State men's soccer players were awarded spots on the Capital One Academic All-District VI first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday, with sophomore Rob Oslica and junior Phil Woods earning the honor.

Oslica earns his first academic all-district first team honor while being an essential defender on the field for the Bears. Starting in all 14 matches of the season, Oslica has helped MSU capture shutouts against Saint Mary's, SIU Edwardsville, and Loyola. He was named to the 2014 MVC All-Freshman team after his stellar performance last season in which he scored his first-career goal and game-winner in the 1-0 shutout victory over Air Force. In the classroom, Oslica holds a 3.79 grade point average as a cell and molecular biology at MSU.

Woods has also been in the starting line-up in all 14 matches this season. He registered the game-winning goal for the Bears in the 3-0 victory over Eastern Illinois (Oct. 6), firing from 35 yards out. For the season, he has one goal, one assist, and 11 shots. An entertainment management major, he holds a 3.85 grade point average and earns the award for the first time.

To qualify for the Capital One Academic All-District team, a nominee must hold a cumulative 3.30 grade point average, must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games.

Oslica and Woods will now be placed on the Division I Academic All-America ballot where first-, second-, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected at the end of next month.

MSU will complete its non-conference schedule on the road at Oral Roberts on Monday (Nov. 2) at 6:00 p.m. before returning to Springfield for the final contest of the regular season against Missouri Valley Conference opponent Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. The three seniors on the squad - Brandon Barbero, Jon Boyack, and James Thomas - will be recognized prior to the match.
