SPRINGFIELD - The Missouri State men's soccer team (5-5-3) will take a break in conference play and face Nebraska Omaha (8-4-2) on Wednesday.
This will be the second meeting between the Bears and the Mavericks, and the first in Omaha in program history. The first meeting between the two programs was in 2013 when MSU was able to grab the 1-0 double-overtime victory over UNO. Emmerich Hoegg scored the golden goal in the 102nd minute of the match.
Head coach Jon Leamy is looking forward to the match-up between the two programs.
"UNO has had a good season this year," commented Leamy. "They have had a strong schedule and have been winning at home. They will make us work hard but we are looking forward to another tough game on the road."
The Bears are coming off of a 4-2 victory over conference opponent Evansville last Saturday. Freshman standout Jake Buckle scored the first goal of the match in the 35th minute, ending his scoreless drought. Buckle leads the team in goals (3), shots (26), and shots on goal (12) this season. Mikey Lightbourne picked up the game-winning goal, and his first of the season, in the 75th minute, powering through the Evansville defense.
MSU will complete their non-conference schedule on the road at Oral Roberts on Monday (Nov. 2) at 6:00 p.m. before returning to Springfield for the final contest of the regular season against Valley opponent Central Arkansas at 7 p.m. The three seniors on the squad - Brandon Barbero, Jon Boyack, and James Thomas - will be recognized prior to the match.
