BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second time in as many days, the Missouri State Bears set numerous personal records in an indoor meet hosted by Alabama-Birmingham. The Bears placed sixth overall out of the twenty-four team in competition at the UAB Green and Gold Invitational held at the Birmingham CrossPlex.
“We came to get some work done, and we accomplished that,” said director of track & field and cross country Ronald Boyce “We got quite the performance out of several individuals and they seem to be having a lot of fun.”
Missouri State placed fourth among the sixteen Division I school in competition. This is the first meet of the year for the Bears that featured the team-scoring format.
Holly Pattie-Belleli followed up her two PR performance on Friday with two more personal bests in Saturday’s meet. The junior broke her high jump mark with a height of 1.54m, good for a sixth place finish in the event.
Pattie-Belleli was also part of the trio of Bears in the 800 meter to set new personal marks. Oliviah Sloan (2:20.24) placed sixth in the race, followed by Pattie-Belleli (2:20.91) and Savannah Beaver (2:23.32).
Rosalie Pringle and Kadisha Francois bested the competition in the 400 meter dash. The Missouri State duo finished first and second, respectively, and each set PRs in the process. Pringle ran a 56.78 to win, followed by Francois’ 57.80 and Erin Roebuck’s fourth-place finish at 58.31.
Oarabile Babolayi also had a successful weekend, setting a new PR in each of the hurdle events she ran. Babolayi raced a 8.76 in the prelims, placing her third overall and qualifying her the finals, before breaking that mark and setting a new personal record and fourth overall finish with her 8.73 finals run. Georgia Richardson’s 9.62 in the prelims was also the fastest of her career.
Althia Maximilien placed third in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.97. The other two Bears in the event, Marissa Kurtimah and Shani Adams, each set PRs with times of 25.94 and 26.13, respectively.
Other personal bests on the weekend include Cindy Forde (5.33.50) in the mile, Jillian Bertz (12.88m) in the weight throw, and Cassandra Schwab (4.76m) in the long jump.
“We have been on the road for three weeks in a row now,” said Boyce. “Not having a meet next week will be good for us to both train and recover.”
The Bears will next compete at the two-day Frank Sevigne Husker Invite in Lincoln, Neb., from Feb. 6-7.
