SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Missouri State women's soccer team (2-2-1) dominated both sides of the ball in a 3-0 triumph over visiting Arkansas State (1-4-0) at the Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Bears scored a season-high three goals, had two others disallowed and hit the crossbar on two other occasions.

"I thought we took the game to them from the start and helped us build a bit of confidence," said head coach Rob Brewer. "Defending is a team effort and it was great to get some of the players that have been working hard some playing time. Our defenders even got involved in the attack, so it was a great day all around"

MSU jumped out early and earned a pair of corners and had the first two shots of the match within the first six minutes. In the 13th minute, the Bears took the early lead. Junior Molly Brewer sent a free kick in from about 35 yards out. Her serve into the box found Brooke Zimmerman, who headed in her second goal of the season.

In the 16th minute, senior Molly Huber appeared to put the Bears in front 2-0, but the goal was waived off. The center official called back play as he stopped play to issue a yellow card to one of the Red Wolves.

Huber again thought she had found the back of the net in the 22nd minute, but play was called back for offside on the Bears. Huber again narrowly missed in the 35th minute as her shot ricocheted off of the crossbar and back out.

In the second half, Huber tallied a goal that counted. Senior Kelsey Fouch began the play by taking the ball away from an ASU defender. Fouch made a move toward the box and found an open Huber who fired the shot in off the post to give MSU a 2-0 lead.

Rachel Catrell got on the score sheet in the 60th minute. She received a throw in and found Fouch, who sent a cross into the box. The ball deflected off a defender to the foot of Molly Brewer, who netted her third goal of the season.

In the 74th minute, Erin Stewart sent a long shot toward net and it too rang off the crossbar and out.

Huber led all Bears with nine shots, five of which were on net. Brewer, Stewart and Alix Opfer each recorded three shots as MSU racked up 27 total shots in the match.

Junior Jessica Perry played the first 71 minutes in yet another shutout by the women's soccer team at Allison South. Laura Ketzer entered and played the final 29 minutes. Neither keeper was tested much as they each made one save.

The three-goal output marked a fourth-consecutive multi-goal match for the Bears, the first time since 2003. MSU did not concede a goal for the second straight match at home and haven't allowed a goal at Allison South in 360 minutes of action including exhibition play.

The Bears return to the pitch on Friday with another home match. MSU and Central Arkansas kick off at 7:00 p.m. at Allison South. A trip to Fayetteville on Sunday night to play Arkansas breaks up a stretch of five out of six matches at home.
