NORMAL, Ill. - The Missouri State women's soccer team (4-6-1, 0-1-0) conceded a pair of first half goals to the all-time MVC goal scoring leader Rachel Tejada and fell to the preseason league favorites Illinois State (7-4-0, 1-0-0) by a 2-0 score in Normal, Ill., on Sunday afternoon.
Tejada found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to break the scoreless tie. She added a second goal three minutes later.
Missouri State goalkeeper Laura Ketzer made 14 saves in the match. It was the most by an MSU keeper since Jackie Jasper racked up 14 saves against the Redbirds on October 29, 2006.
Molly Brewer had two of the Bears five shots in the match. The Bears were out-shot 24-5 in the game.
The Bears will return to Allison South on Friday, October 3 against Indiana State to open the home portion of league play. The 7:00 p.m. match versus the Sycamores will be FREE to all attendees. The Bears will attempt to break the all-time attendance record of 905 set back in 1999.
