SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Junior Molly Brewer had her first career multi-goal outing, an effort that propelled the Missouri State women's soccer team (3-5-1) to a come-from-behind 3-1 win over SIU Edwardsville (3-4-1) at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

"Over the course of the match, we scrapped and fought and had a good day," said head coach Rob Brewer. "The goals were everything. If you don't get the first goal, you start to press and open yourself up for the counterattack, so it was good to get the equalizer early."

MSU faced an early deficit just 24 seconds into the match. The Cougars intercepted the Bears' opening kick and a deflected pass skirted past Bears goalkeeper Laura Ketzer.

The Bears responded in the 12th minute. Senior defender Kelsey Fouch won the ball near midfield and her pass forward sent Molly Brewer in behind the defense. Brewer dribbled to within six yards before she fired a low shot into the net for the equalizing goal.

Brewer put the Bears in front just before halftime. Fouch intercepted and errant switch pass by SIUE. Again, she sent Brewer streaking past the Cougars' defenders. After tracking down the ball, Brewer proceeded towards the net, rifling a shot past the keeper from about 12 yards away.

In the second half, Molly Huber tied Brewer for the team-lead in goals. In the 49th minute, the Bears goal kick was controlled by Kelsey Goff at midfield. She found Kristina Tomaras on the left flank. Tomaras passed the ball ahead to Huber, who burst past the defender to within 10 yards before striking a low shot into the net.

Molly Brewer had five of MSU's eight shots in the match. The physical battle between the teams resulted in a total of 13 shots. Both Ketzer and SIUE keeper Jennifer Pulley made one save each.

The Bears wrap up the three-match home stand against Nebraska-Omaha on Thursday (Sept. 25) at 7:00 p.m. MSU will open conference play on the road on September 28 at Illinois State at 1:00 p.m.
