KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The NSCAA announced on Tuesday that three Missouri State men's soccer players have been selected to College Scholar All-Region teams. Named to the All-North/Central Region, one of four university level divisions, are seniors James Fawke, Parker Maher, and Brandon Besong. Fawke and Maher received a place on the first team, while Besong received second team recognition. These three Bears were named to the NSCAA's first or second team last season as well.
Fawke returns to the first team for the second consecutive season. With 17 starts on the year in 2014, the senior played his way onto consecutive First-Team All-MVC teams and earned his first MVC All-Tournament Team Selection. Last week, Fawke was named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-West Region Second Team. Fawke has a 3.72 GPA and is majoring in Administrative Management.
A second team selection from a year ago, Maher had a tremendous senior campaign. The Joplin, Mo., native started every game for the Bears this season and led the MVC regular season champions in minutes played. In 2014, Maher tallied a career high three assists and earned All-MVC Second Team honors. Maher has also been named to the MVC All-Tournament team in back-to-back seasons. Maher was an All-North/Central Region Academic Second Team in 2013, and carries a 3.30 GPA in Administrative Management.
Besong is named to the second team in consecutive years after starting every game for the regular season champions. The senior placed second on the squad in minutes played, and was named to the All-MVC Second Team for his play on the field. Earlier this year, Besong was named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete First Team. Hailing from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Besong played every position on the field for the Bears, is majoring in accounting, and has a 3.52 GPA.
The three selections increase the program's total to 43 NSCAA All-Region Scholar Team selections since 1995. Besong, Fawke, and Maher are among three of the 13 all-time Missouri State soccer players to be named to teams in multiple seasons.
