LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Missouri State women's soccer team (5-7-1) hung with 16th-ranked Kansas (13-1-0) in a narrow 2-1 loss at new Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan., on Sunday afternoon in the final non-conference match of the season. Junior defender Lauren Fussell tallied her second goal of the season and Molly Brewer inched up the all-time points chart with an assist.

Both teams battled through a scoreless first half. The Jayhawks were outshooting MSU 5-2 at the break with the Bears earning the only corner. Missouri State goalkeeper Laura Ketzer made two saves, including one that she deflected off the cross bar.

In the second half, Kansas broke the tie with goals in the 61st and 67th minutes to edge out to a 2-0 lead.

The Bears responded shortly thereafter. In the 70th minute, MSU earned its second corner of the match and took advantage. Molly Brewer sent in a serve that bounced at the near corner at the top of the box. After it bounded over a KU defender, it fell to the foot of Fussell who rocketed a shot into the net, cutting the deficit is half.

The assist moves Brewer up to a tie for sixth in school history with 37 points. It was her 13th career assist, tying her for fourth in program history.

Ketzer made four saves in the match while KU's keeper did not stop the Bears' only shot on frame.

Missouri State returns home on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. for a conference match against Evansville at Betty and Bobby Allison South Stadium.
