CHOUDRANT, La. - The Missouri State men's golf team wraps up its fall season this week at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, hosted by Louisiana Tech at Squire Creek Country Club.
The tournament is set for Monday and Tuesday with action to begin at 8 a.m. The 10-team tournament includes the host Bulldogs, Central Arkansas, UALR, Louisiana Monroe, Stephen F. Austin, North Texas, Nicholls State, New Orleans and Southern Miss.
Missouri State is excited to play on the 7,105-yard, par-72 course.
"Squire Creek is always rated as one of the top courses in Louisiana," said Missouri State head coach Neal Stafford. "The greens are very fast with undulation. It makes you really think with your approach shots. It is always a privilege to be able to have our team here, and we hope to have some solid play from all five guys."
The MSU lineup this week features senior Mark Karlsen, juniors Joey Johnson, Brik Brauburger and Mitch Mather and freshman Brad Carpenter.
The Bears finished in a tie for eighth place out of 16 teams at another rain-shortened Bill Ross Intercollegiate, hosted by UMKC. Three of Missouri State's four tournaments this season have been altered due to weather.
Johnson paced the team at the Bill Ross in Overland Park, Kan., shooting a two-round, 6-over-par 150 to tie for eighth individually. As a team, the Bears shot 43-over 619 at Milburn Country Club.
Southern Miss won the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate last season with an 867 total. Gonzalo Rubio of North Texas was the individual medalist, firing a 208. Louisiana Tech has won its tournament only once - in 2010. New Orleans claimed consecutive titles in 2008 and 2009.
