Men's Golf in the Hunt in the Desert

Feb. 27, 2012

The Missouri State men's golf team vaulted into the thick of the team race Monday afternoon (Feb. 27) amid windy conditions at the WSU/Snowman Getaway in Goodyear, Ariz.

The Bears fired the low round of the afternoon, carding a 303 after the morning's 292 had placed them in fourth place. Their 595 total has them in second place entering Tuesday's play, just three shots behind UMKC, which posted 288-304--592.

Strong, gusty winds sent the afternoon scores soaring at the par 72, 7015-yard Palm Valley Golf Club. First-round leader British Columbia dropped to third after 36 holes with 284-312--596, while St. John's is fourth at 293-307--600, followed by Utah Valley, SIU Edwardsville and UNCG (601); host Washington State and Loyola of Maryland (602); Utah State (606), Gonzaga (608), Bradley (619), North Dakota (627), Seattle (630), St. Bonaventure (648) and South Dakota (657).

Senior Jordan McLaurin and junior Daily Young paved the way for MSU with 147 totals, tying them for 12th place. McLaurin carded 73-74 while Young shot 72-75. Next for the Bears came sophomores Eric Straub and Nick Langley, who are 21st and 27th, respectively, after two rounds. Straub posted 73-77--150 while Langley had 74-77--151. Senior Will Hogan is tied for 55th after carding 78-77--155.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
