Bears, Welber Third After 36 Holes at Kansas State

The Missouri State women's golf team is in third place after the first day of the Marilynn Smith/Sunflower Invitational in Manhattan, Kan. The Bears posted 299-305--604 Monday (Sept. 26) at the 12-team tournament at Colbert Hills Golf Club.

Individually, senior Kelsey Welber, looking to post her sixth consecutive top-10 finish, shot 75-72--147 and is also in third place. She trails only leader Malin Lundberg of Arkansas-Little Rock, who posted 70-70--140, and Gianna Misenhelter of host Kansas State, who had 71-72--143.

Also for the Bears, junior Hermine Greyling is tied for fourth after 36 holes, notching a pair of 74's for 148, while senior Catherine Dolan is tied for 13th after shooting 74-78--152. Junior Emma Clegg shot 76-81--157 and is tied for 34th, and freshman Megan Thompson is 64th with 88-83--171.

UALR has a healthy lead in the team race after recording 292-298--590, nine better than Kansas State (300-299--599) and 14 clear of MSU. Kansas is fourth with 608, followed by Oral Roberts (611), UMKC (612), Wichita State (625), Arkansas State (633), Bradley (635), Indiana State and South Dakota State (638), and Creighton (644).

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
