TUCSON, Ariz. -- Missouri State freshman right-handed pitcher
Nick Petree has earned a spot on
Collegiate Baseball newspaper’s Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team, the publication announced Wednesday. Petree is MSU’s ninth member of the team and first since
Kevin Medrano in 2009.
The Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and a second-team all-MVC pick, Petree went 9-2 with a 2.81 ERA while setting MSU freshman records for wins and innings (96) and ranking third among that group with 81 strikeouts.
The Clinton, Mo., native assumed Missouri State’s Friday night starting role March 25 and pitched at least six innings in each of his 11 starts. He also picked up two saves in five relief appearances early in the year while throwing two complete games and holding opponents to a .236 batting average for the season.
