DALLAS -- Missouri State right-hander
Nick Petree has earned a spot on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Freshman All-American Second Team, the organization announced late Tuesday (June 14). Petree was also honored as a Freshman All-American last week by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.
The Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year and a second-team all-MVC pick, Petree went 9-2 with a 2.81 ERA while setting MSU freshman records for wins and innings (96) and ranking third among that group with 81 strikeouts.
The Clinton, Mo., native assumed Missouri State’s Friday night starting role March 25 and pitched at least six innings in each of his 11 starts. He also picked up two saves in five relief appearances early in the year while throwing two complete games and holding opponents to a .236 batting average for the season.
