The Missouri State women's golf team moved up a spot in Tuesday's (Oct. 4) final round to finish ninth at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Seniors Catherine Dolan and Kelsey Welber fired 73 and 74, respectively, to pace the Bears to a 305, which gave them a 914 total for 54 holes after 306-303 on Monday.
Overall, Welber was low for MSU, recording her seventh straight top-10 finish, a tie for 10th, by posting 74-74-74--222. Dolan was a shot back with 73-77-73--223 to tie for 14th. Junior Emma Clegg was next for the Bears, shooting 78-75-77--230 to tie for 40th.
Megan Thompson, Hermine Greyling and Emily Potts finished 76th, 77th and 78th, respectively. Thompson had 80-81-83--244, Greyling 81-83-81--245 and Potts 82-77-87--246. Lejan Lewthwaite of Texas State grabbed medalist honors by firing 74-71-67--212, four under par at the Club at Old Hawthorne.
Texas State also took the team title, posting 294-291-294--879, with Kansas State finishing second at 299-300-287--886.
Florida International was third in the 15-team field with 893, followed by fourth-place Colorado State (900), Arkansas-Little Rock (901), Missouri (906), SMU (909), Illinois State (911), the Bears (914) and Morehead State (918) rounding out the top 10. Kansas (922) placed 11th, followed by Wichita State (924), UMKC (926), Bradley (944) and Princeton (962).
MSU is idle next week, but returns to action Oct. 17-18 when it hosts the Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut Golf Course.
