The Missouri State men's golf team placed fourth Sunday (Oct. 2) at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate in Normal, Ill. The Bears entered the final round tied for fourth and shot 294 to go with Saturday's 296-301 for an 891 total for 54 holes.
MSU was led by senior Will Hogan, who placed sixth after firing 72-73-71--216, three over par at the Weibring Golf Course at Illinois State. Junior Daily Young tied for 11th for the Bears, shooting 71-77-73--221. The three other Bears -- Jordan McLaurin, Eric Straub and Nick Langley -- tied for 40th with 229 totals. McLaurin carded 75-79-75, Straub 78-75-76, and Langley had 78-76-75. Luke Guthrie of Illinois took medalist honors, going wire-to-wire by shooting 67-68-68--203.
The Illini also ran away with the team title by 23 shots, posting 285-285-282--852. Akron was second with 296-299-280--875, and Southern Illinois finished third with 301-291-292--885.
The Bears were fourth, with West Florida fifth at 893 and Detroit Mercy sixth at 895. Then came Illinois State and Northern Iowa (900), followed by Wisconsin (907), Western Illinois (910), Northern Illinois (911), Nebraska (913), Arkansas State (924), Bradley (928) and SIU Edwardsville (931).
The Bears are idle next week, but return to action Oct. 17-18 at the UMKC Intercollegiate.
