The Missouri State Cross Country squad placed second in their first meet of the 2010 season. They ran in the Southwest Baptist Bearcat Invitational in Bolivar, Mo. Sophomore Maggie Sutor led the Bears with her time of 19:41, good enough for second place in the field of 41. Right behind her was junior Andrea Marshall at 19:43. The rest of the Bears were freshmen Emily Argotsinger (20:24), Nicole Thate (20:29) and Megan Fox (20:51).
The top nine runners for Missouri State did not make the trip to SBU and continued workouts in Springfield. However, the athletes that did compete ran very well. This was the first collegiate competition for Argotsinger, Thate and Fox.
"The girls competed very well," Missouri State head coach Greg Hipp said of his team. "Though our top nine stayed in Springfield, the women that we brought ran very well. They were very aggressive and raced really hard."
The next meet for the Bears will be on Sept. 17 in Edwardsville, Ill. at the Southern Illinois - Edwardsville Cross Country Challenge. This meet will be the final tune-up before the Bears' home meet on Oct. 2 at the Greater Springfield Sports Commission Richard Clark Invitational. This meet will display some of the finest cross country talent in the Midwest. For more information on the Richard Clark Invitational, check out www.bearstrack.net.
