Junior Catherine Dolan finished second in the medalist competition and the Missouri State women's golf team took fourth in the team race Sunday (Sept. 12) at the season-opening Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill.
Dolan fired a final-round 76 and finished with a 224 total over 54 holes, two behind medalist Brianna Cooper of Illinois State. The Ballwin, Mo., native was tied for third entering the final round after posting a pair of 74's Saturday.
As a team, the Bears compiled 310-316-313--939 in three trips around the par 71, 6074-yard Weibring Golf Club to place fourth of 11 teams. Host Illinois State captured the team title, shooting 301-302-310--913, to top second-place Wichita State by six strokes. Soutthern Illinois was third at 935, followed by MSU, then Northern Iowa (940), Bradley (946), Detroit Mercy (957), Illinois Wesleyan (973), Drake (974), Indiana State (976) and Northern Illinois (977).
Individually for the Bears, sophomore Emma Clegg tied for 19th, posting 81-79-78--238. Freshman Rikke Falsner tied for 22nd after carding 80-81-78--239, while juniors Kelsey Welber and Emily Potts tied for 25th with 241 totals. Welber shot 78-84-79 and Potts 78-82-81. Sophomore Hermine Greyling had 83-79-80--242 to tie for 31st.
The Bears are idle next weekend and then return to action Sept. 26-28 at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Vail, Colo.
