Bear Pair Wraps Up Play at U.S. Amateur

Missouri State juniors Jordan McLaurin and Will Hogan are headed home after completing two days of stroke play at the United States Amateur Golf Championship in suburban Seattle, Wash.

After qualifying for the tournament last month, the pair were part of a 312-player field that played Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 23-24) at Chambers Bay and the Home Course and was narrowed to the top 64 for match play, which begins Wednesday.

McLaurin (Ironton, Mo.) just missed the top 64, shooting a pair of 75's for a 150 total, one stroke from the cut line.  Hogan (Ozark, Mo.) jumped out to a good start, tying for 24th after a first round 72 at the Home Course, but soared to an 81 at Chambers Bay and finished with 153, four shots from the top 64.

The two have combined to win the last two Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year awards with McLaurin winning as a freshman in 2009 and Hogan earning the honor this past season after transferring from Missouri.

The pair will rejoin their teammates this week in preparation for MSU's season opener, Sept. 13-14, at the Fairway Club Invitational in Nebraska City, Neb.
