Meade Dominates Sycamores As Bears Claim 5-3 Win

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Missouri State’s Aaron Meade allowed no earned runs over eight innings against the Missouri Valley Conference’s top offense as the Bears defeated Indiana State by a 5-3 final Sunday afternoon at Bob Warn Field in Terre Haute, Ind.

Meade (2-3) retired the first nine hitters he saw and faced one over the minimum through seven frames before the Sycamores (29-13, 8-6 MVC) managed to advance a runner to second base in the eighth. ISU’s second out of the eighth put runners on second and third before Ben Ferrell lifted a fly ball to right that Christian Overstreet circled under and lost in the sun as the ball hit his glove on the way down to let two runs score and make the score 5-2 in favor of the Bears (18-24, 4-8).

Meade finished eight innings with three singles allowed, two walks and a strikeout.

Grant Gordon pitched through a shaky ninth, striking out the side and giving up a run on three singles for his seventh save.

The Bears took command early with three runs in the third. J.C. Casey drew a leadoff walk and scored on Aaron Conway’s one-out triple for MSU’s first lead of the series. Keenen Maddox drove in Conway with a single and Overstreet grounded out with the bases loaded for a 3-0 advantage.

Travis McComack had an RBI ground out in the sixth to score Curt Courtwright after a leadoff single, and the Bears made the score 5-0 in the seventh when Overstreet laid down a successful squeeze, allowing Kevin Medrano to score when he slid around the tag at home. Medrano extended his hitting streak to 24 games with his leadoff single in the seventh, tying for the second longest in school history. Brayden Drake holds the record at 30 from 2008-09.

Missouri State returns to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. contest at Missouri.
