Nelson and Llewellyn Lead the Way at the Arkansas Twilight

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Another all-MVC type performance from Staci Nelson, Shantel Llewellyn's strong sprint showing and a trio of field top-three finishes highlighted the Track and Field Bears' regular-season conclusion at Friday's Arkansas Twilight.

Nelson (Sr., Chatham, Ill.) finished fifth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:29.73, a personal best by nearly eight seconds. Nelson now owns the third-fastest time of any MVC runner, in addition to her top MVC time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:35.43).

Llewellyn finished 10th in the 200-meter dash (24.87) and seventh in the 100-meter dash. The Ajax, Ontario has become a force in the 100m, as she has yet to finish outside of the top seven this outdoor season. Her 12.09 time is a personal best and gives her the fifth-fastest time in the MVC.

Freshmen Kimsue Grant (Arlington, Va.) and Jordan Bond (Normal, Ill.) combined with sophomore Jeláni Kelly (St. Louis, Mo.) to give the Bears three top-three field finishes. Grant and Bond went 2-3 in the triple jump, with leaps of 38-01.50 and 36-08.50. Kelly was third in the discus, throwing 150-02.00.

Bond also joined Cheyenne Stewart (Fr., Christ Church, Barbados) in the high jump's top ten for the second straight week. Stewart finished sixth with a 5-03.00 height, while Bond's personal best of 5-01.00 put her tenth.

Head coach Ronald Boyce's squad is now off until the MVC Outdoor Championships May 14-16 in Normal, Ill. The Bears will look to improve on their fifth-place finish at the Indoor Championships.
