The Missouri Valley Conference announced their 2009 Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference and 2009 Scholar-Athlete award winners today. Eight athletes received All-MVC honors and 10 Bears were named to the Scholar-Athlete team.
Leander Ernest (Jr., Castrias, St. Lucia) and Yaneika Malcolm (Jr., Montego Bay, Jamaica) received All-MVC honors in both the 400-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. Rashida Allen (So., Montego Bay, Jamaica) and Cortene Boulard (Jr., Beaumont, Texas) also received the honor for the 4x400-meter relay. Pasca Cheruiyot (Jr., Eldoret, Kenya) was All-MVC in the 5,000- and 10,000-meter runs. Mareneika and Zaleika Goffe (Sr., St. James, Jamaica) were All-Conference in the high jump. Terry Phillips (So., Kansas City, Mo.) was All-MVC in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, an event she will compete in at the NCAA Division I Championship.
Allen, Boulard, Ernest, Malcolm, Phillips and both Goffe twins were named to the 2009 MVC Scholar-Athlete team. Asher Kyger (Sr., Oldfield, Mo.), Staci Nelson (Jr., Chatham, Ill.) and Jamie Vest (Sr., Lebanon, Mo.) were also named to the Scholar-Athlete team. Athletes were eligible for the Scholar-Athlete team by placing in the top-eight in their event at the MVC Conference Championship and by having a grade point average of 3.00 or higher.
