The Missouri State track and field team had a very successful day at the Indiana Relays. Newcomer
Pasca Cheruiyot attained the NCAA Provisional time in the 3,000-meter run, her first race in the event at Missouri State. Her time of 9:30.60 makes her the second-fastest performer in school history behind Casey Owens’ 9:24.69 ran in 2004.
In the only other distance event of the day, senior Jamie Vest placed second in the mile run. Her time of 5:11.28 is a personal best by nearly 10 seconds over her previous best.
Sophomore Rashida Allen posted a personal best time in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.74 seconds. She placed third in the event to advance to Saturday’s semifinals. Teammates Shantel Llewellyn and Cortene Boulard also advanced in the 200-meter. Llewellyn ran a personal best with a time of 25.47 seconds.
Allen also advanced to the semifinals of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.87 seconds. Boulard will join Allen in tomorrow’s semifinal 60-meter dash, advancing with a 13th-place finish.
Valley Track Athlete of the Week Leander Ernest finished third in the 400-meter invitational with a time of 55.10 seconds.
Shawnt Middlebrook moved on to tomorrow’s finals in both the triple jump and the long jump. She placed fourth and 10th, respectively, in today’s jumps. Teammate Mareneika Goffe tied a personal best with a height of 5-06.00 feet in the high jump to finish second.
Freshman Jelni Kelly posted a personal best in the shot put. Her throw of 41-01.00 feet placed her eighth. Kelly will advance to tomorrow’s final on her distance today.
Tomorrow’s events begin at 8:30 a.m. at Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind.
