Men's Soccer Drops Mid-Week Game at Memphis

The Missouri State men’s soccer team suffered a 2-0 defeat to the Memphis Tigers on Wednesday night (Sept. 24).  The Bears’ offense struggled against tough Tiger goalkeeper.

The Bears’ defense held Memphis scoreless until the Tigers (2-6-0) broke down the Bears’ defense with a pristine display of passing with nine minutes left in the first half.  The Tigers’ Sean Goulding served a crossing pass to Brian Farrell who bounced a shot over a diving Alex Riggs for the goal.  The Tigers struck again 15 minutes into the second half when Sean Goulding again served up a crossing pass to Ryan Ruble who rocketed the goal past Riggs.

Despite recording nine shots the Bears were held scoreless.  The Bears had several scoring opportunities but the six saves by Memphis goalkeeper Michael Goodlett kept to Bears’ offense without a goal for the fifth time this season.  The loss drops the Bears to 1-4-3 for the season.

The Bears will be in action again this weekend when the travel to St. Louis to face the fifth ranked Billikens at Hermann Stadium on Saturday (Sept. 27) at 7:30 p.m.
