Hobbs Joins Missouri State Track and Field Staff

Missouri State Head Track and Field Coach Ron Boyce has announced the addition of Brent Hobbs to his staff. Hobbs, who will oversee the Bears field event athletes, comes to Missouri State from NCAA Division I Western Carolina University of the Southern Conference.

At Western Carolina, Hobbs’ primary coaching responsibilities included the shot put, weight, discus, and hammer throws, as well as, working with the program’s jumping and multi-events.

Hobbs was highly successful in a two-year stint with the Catamounts that saw his athletes earn 26 All-Southern Conference honors, including five conference individual titles in the throws and multi-events. Hobbs is no stranger to team success as Western’s program took team titles four times--two for men and two for women--during his time in Cullowhee. Included among that team success was Western’s sweep of the 2008 conference men’s and women’s indoor team titles.

Hobbs moved to Western Carolina from Clemson University, where he was a standout on the Tiger track & field team. A three-time NCAA Qualifier in the indoor heptathlon, he earned All-American status at the NCAA Indoor meet with a tenth place finish his senior season. Hobbs was also named All-ACC three times in the indoor heptathlon. Outdoors, he was a two-time East Regional qualifier in the 110-meter hurdles, earning All-ACC accolades in that event. Also an accomplished jumper and thrower, Hobbs also earned All-ACC honors three times in the decathlon, qualifying for the NCAA's three times.

Hobbs earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Athletic Leadership from Clemson. He also completed his Master's in Physical Education at WCU. Hobbs also has received his USA Track and Field Level I Coaches Certification.

A Nike All-American at Don Bosco Prep, Hobbs, is a native of Stony Point, N.Y.
