Six Missouri State track and field athletes have been named to the 2008 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, announced Thursday, May 22 by the league office. Additionally, nine athletes have earned a spot on the MVC Outdoor Track and Field All-Conference Team.
Missouri State finished sixth at the MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Carbondale, Ill. Jacqui Lindsey, Yaneika Malcolm, Renna Berry and Leander Ernest highlighted the Bears at the conference meet claiming the conference title in the 4x400 meter relay. Ernest captured an individual title at the meet with a victory in the 400-meter dash as well as a second-place finish in the 200-meter dash. Lindsey, Malcolm, Berry and Ernest joined teammates Carrie Vestal, Mareneika Goffe, Asher Kyger, Terry Phillips and Jamie Vest on the MVC All-Conference squad. Vestal claimed third in the 10,000-meter run and Goffe placed third in the high jump compeition. Kyger earned two third-place fi nishes in the 800-meter and 1500-meter run while Phillips and Vest claimed second and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. To earn all-conferece accolades, atheltes must finish in the top three spots in the event they participated.
To be eligible for MVC Scholar-Athlete honors, athletes must have finished in the top eight at one of the conference’s championship events (indoor or outdoor) and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing while maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
