Junior third baseman Brayden Drake drove in five runs to lead the Missouri State baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Iowa Saturday at Dobson Field in Bolivar, Mo.
MSU improved to 6-2 on the season, while Iowa fell to 3-4.
Drake smacked a bases-loaded two-run double in the first to drive in Chris Playter and Nolan Keane, who each walked earlier in the frame, and later scored to make it 3-0 after advancing the final two bases on wild pitches. The Bears took advantage of four walks and two wild pitches by Iowa starter Brock Alberts in the first.
The Hawkeyes answered with single runs in the third and fourth to pull within 3-2, but Drake lined his first home run of the season to left in the bottom of the fourth, a three-run blast that provided all the offensive insurance the Bears would need.
Tim Clubb (1-0) took care of the rest for Missouri State, going seven innings and allowing just a single earned run while fanning five. Jon Barnes pitched the eighth and Matt Frevert threw a perfect ninth for his first save of the season.
The Bears and Hawkeyes meet for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Hammons Field.
