DALLAS – Missouri State swept Conference USA's weekly baseball awards Monday, with
Caden Bogenpohl picking up Hitter of the Week honors and
Jason Schaaf being named the league's Pitcher of the Week.
Â
Bogenpohl scored 12 times in four games to help the Bears to a 4-0 week, batting .500 with a .929 slugging percentage and .650 OBP, hitting three doubles and a home run to go with six walks. The junior began his remarkable week with a walk-off home run on the first pitch of the 10th inning in Tuesday's victory over No. 17 Arkansas, capping a 3-for-5 game with three runs and two RBIs.
Â
Friday, the Jackson, Mo., native doubled twice and scored twice in Mo State's series-opening win against Sam Houston. Saturday, Bogenpohl went 2-for-3 with a double and touched home four times, then walked three times and scored three runs in Sunday's finale against the Bearkats.
Â
Schaaf fired a two-hit shutout Sunday against Sam Houston to complete the weekend sweep and help the Bears improve to 15-0 at home. The senior from Las Vegas retired the final 13 Bearkats he faced to complete the first individual two-hit shutout by a Bear since Nick Petree in 2013. He struck out seven and yielded just a single, double and two walks in his second career shutout.
Â
The Bears (21-9) begin a four-game road trip Tuesday at 6 p.m. when they visit in-state rival Missouri. The Tigers make the return trip to Hammons Field on April 15 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets to all home games are available
