Bears Compete in Razorback Invitational

The Missouri State track and field team concluded the Razorback Invitational Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark. Sophomore Leander Ernest turned in a stellar performance for the Bears, placing fourth overall in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:09.98. . Her time in the 800-meter sets a new Missouri Valley Conference leading mark.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Ernest, Yanieka Malcolm, Courtenee Boulard, and Jacqui Lindsey teamed for a time of 3:45. The squad finished 0.14 seconds behind Texas A&M in their section for sixth-place overall. Ernest also registered the conference’s second-best time in the 200-meter clocking a time of 25.14.

Malcolm moved into the Valley’s number-two position in the 400-meter dash, capturing a 12th-place finish with a time of 55.97.

Freshman Shawntee Middlebrook posted two season bests in the long jump and triple jump. Middlebrook took ninth-place in the long jump registering a 18-7.25 leap. In the triple jump, she finished 12th with a distance of 36-10.5.

Missouri State twin sisters Zaleika and Maraneika Goffe competed in the high jump for the Bears. Zaleika and Maraneika cleared a height of 5-2.25, however Zalieka cleared the height with fewer misses earning her a seventh-place finish to Maraneika’s eigth-place finish.

The track and field team next heads to Bloomington, Ind., for the Indiana Relays on Feb. 1-2.
