Missouri State sophomore Jay McBride captured his first collegiate title Wednesday (Sept. 5), firing a one-under-par 71 in the final round for a three-stroke victory at the Missouri Intercollegiate men's golf tournament in Sunrise Beach, Mo. McBride posted 73-70-71--214, two-under-par, in three trips around The Club at Porto Cima and led the Bears to second place in the team race. MSU moved up a place in the final round by shooting 302, the best score of the day. The Bears shot 295-299-302--896 to finish behind only UMKC, which ran away with the team title with 295-285-303--883. Drury and Central Missouri tied for third with 909 totals while Lindenwood finished fifth with 915.
First-day leader Neil Horsley of UMKC skied to an 80 Wednesday and ended up third with 73-67-80--223. UMKC's Alex Hogben was runnerup to McBride with 75-71-71--217. Sophomore Scott Glenn was second for the Bears and tied for eighth overall with 74-77-73--224 while teammate Ryan Weinhaus tied for 16th after shooting 75-73-80--228. Freshman Jack Courington tied for 33rd with 77-81-78--236, and senior Damaso Carrera tied for 37th at 82-75-80--237.
The Bears return to action Sept. 17-18 at the Kansas Invitational in Lawrence, Kan.
