The Missouri State men's golf team finished fifth of 10 teams Tuesday (Sept. 25) at the Jim Colbert Intercollegiate in Manhattan, Kan. The Bears slipped a spot in the final round, shooting 308 to drop from fourth and finish with a 54-hole card of 312-294-308--914.
Miami (Ohio) captured the team title with 287-296-292--875, 12 better than host Kansas State, which notched 299-292-296--887. Marquette placed third at 898 and Akron fourth with 911, three better than MSU. New Mexico State finished sixth (919), followed by Richmond (921), Air Force (927), Northern Illinois (935) and Army (942).
Senior Damaso Carrera, who entered the day tied for second, shot 75 Tuesday at Colbert Hills Golf Club and finished seventh. He posted a 54-hole score of 79-67-75--221. Sophomore Scott Glenn was second for the Bears and tied for 18th overall after shooting 79-71-78--228, while classmate Jay McBride carded 75-79-79--233 to tie for 30th with Bear freshman Jack Courington. Courington shot rounds of 79-78-76. Senior John Cronly tied for 51st with 85-78-81--244.
Medalist honors went to Miami's Michael Drobnick, who posted a final-round 70 to edge overnight leader Mike Van Sickle of Marquette and Miami teammate Ben Wood by a stroke with an even-par 216.
The Bears are back in action next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 1-2) at the UTA Water Chase Invitational in Arlington, Texas
