The Missouri State cross country team was ranked ninth in the first NCAA Division I Midwest Regional poll of the 2007 season, announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
Under the direction of head coach Greg Hipp, the Bears captured the team title at their first meet of the season, the Washington University Early Bird Meet, Sept. 1, in St. Louis. Senior Carrie Vestal won the overall title at the 4K event, besting the field with a run of 14:07.53, and the Bears posted the top four times and five of the top six finishes overall.
Missouri State will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 22, when it hosts the Missouri State Cross Country Classic. The event, which will be held on the grounds of Springfield Underground at the intersection of US-65 and Division Street, will be the Bears’ first home meet in six years.
