Nolan Keane, Ross Detwiler and Tim Clubb are this year’s winners of Missouri State’s baseball team awards as voted on by their teammates. Keane is the A.E. "Ted" Willis Most Valuable Player, Detwiler is the Dave Dickensheet Pitcher of the Year and Clubb the Danny Cook Rookie of the Year.
Keane started 55 of Missouri State’s 57 games in the outfield, hitting .314 with a team-best nine home runs and .507 slugging percentage. The junior was second on the team with 32 RBIs, 65 hits and led the Bears by scoring 45 runs. He also drew more walks (31) than strikeouts (28), and swiped nine bases. Keane was the only Bear with an on-base percentage above .400, reaching safely at a .403 clip for the season while compiling a .975 fielding percentage.
Detwiler was the staff ace all season, making 14 starts and finishing with a 2.22 ERA in 89 innings. The lefty struck out 110 batters, seven shy of the Missouri State single-season record, and had five games of 10 or more strikeouts. Opponents hit .198 against Detwiler, and the second-team all-conference selection was honored as a Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week Feb. 26 and MVC Pitcher of the Week March 19. He became the highest draft pick ever from Missouri State when the Washington Nationals selected him sixth overall in the June 7 MLB Draft.
Redshirt freshman Clubb led Missouri State in wins, finishing 6-3 with a 4.07 ERA. He earned a spot in the weekend rotation midway through the season, and finished with a 2-1 record and 4.20 ERA against league opponents. He made 17 appearances overall with 12 starts, and, after a rough start in his first career appearance, pitched to a 3.25 ERA and .248 opponent average in his final 16 appearances.
The 2007 Missouri State baseball team finished 23-34 overall but had big wins over NCAA Tournament teams Minnesota, Creighton and Wichita State.
