Eight Missouri State track and field athletes have been named to the 2007 Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Team, announced Wednesday by the league office.
Missouri State finished fourth at last weekend’s MVC Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Des Moines, Iowa, as six of the Bears’ eight scholar-athletes took home all-conference honors. This weekend, four MSU athletes, including MVC Scholar-Athletes Carrie Vestal (3,000 meter steeplechase) and Kim Carter (long jump) will compete in individual events at the NCAA Mideast Region Championships in Columbia, Mo. Senior Genna Williams (100m and 200m) and freshman Leander Ernest (400m and 800m) will also compete, while the Bears’ 4x100 and 4x400 meter relay teams both qualified at last weekend’s conference meet to advance to regional competition.
To be eligible for MVC Scholar-Athlete honors, athletes must have finished in the top six at one of the conference’s championship events (indoor or outdoor) and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing while maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
