The Missouri State women's golf team posted its worst round of an otherwise productive season Tuesday and finished in a tie for fifth place at the 2007 MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Mo. The Bears shot 333 in the final round, giving them a 647 total after their opening 314 Monday. Oklahoma City ran away with the team title, notching 304-307--611 to top runnerup Redlands Community College by 28 strokes. Northern Iowa took third with 640, Wichita State fourth at 644 and the Bears and Drury tied for fifth.
Oklahoma City's Ashley Sholer took medalist honors after firing 72-79--151 for a one-shot victory over Drake's Olivia Lansing, Drury's Tonya Choate and Oklahoma City's Tamara Campbell. First-round leader Sally Hinton of MSU soared to an 86 in the round round after shooting 71 Monday. She finished 10th with her 157 total.
Elsewhere for the Bears, Missy Linnens tied for 22nd with 81-82--163; Stacey Rodger tied for 27th at 80-84--164; Lindsey Wellenstein tied for 33rd with 82-83--165; and Amy Phalajiving shot 87-84--171 to tie for 45th. Playing as individuals for the Bears, Jillian Anthony tied for 27th at 76-88--164; Lindsay Geason tied for 65th with 85-95--180; Megan Agey shot 94-92--186; and Mallory Mahon shot 83 Tuesday after being forced to withdraw due to injury the first day.
The Bears are back in action Apr. 15-17 at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Peoria, Ill.
