Men's golf finishes sixth at Valley tournament

The Missouri State men's golf team posted a 305 in Tuesday's (Apr. 24) final round of the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship to finish in a sixth-place tie at the Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan.  The Bears shot 305-296-305--906 over 54 holes, the same final total as Northern Iowa, and five behind fifth-place Drake. 

Illinois State scored the upset by beating overwhelming favorite Wichita State for the team title, 853-866.  Creighton was third at 893, followed by Southern Illinois (898), Drake (901), the Bears and UNI (906), Evansville (910) and Bradley (914). 

Creighton's John Sutko hung on to win medalist honors by posting 70-68-68--206, four ahead of Illinois State's Ben Murphy. 

For the Bears, senior Matt Sullivan was low with 75-72-78--225, good for a tie for 16th.  Freshman Matt Cermak was low on the final day with a two-over 72 for a three-round tally of 78-76-72--226 and 21st place, with classmate Jay McBride close behind at 79-75-75--229 for 25th.  Freshman Scott Glenn carded 75-73-83--231 for 29th place and junior Damaso Carrera placed 35th after shooting 77-76-80--233.
