Carter Places Fifth in Heptathlon at Audrey Walton Combined Events

Missouri State's Kim Carter placed fifth in the heptathlon with a score of 4,600 at the 4th Annual Audrey Walton Combined Events in Columbia, Mo., Friday. The remaining MSU track and field athletes competed in day one of the University of Tennessee 41st Annual Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.

Carter began the heptathlon with a 10th-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.37. She followed that up with a sixth-place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-01.75. In the shot put competition, Carter marked a distance of 36-00.25 to place second. The senior sprinted to a first-place win in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.99, then had a third-place showing in the long jump with a mark of 17-06.00. Carter finished the heptathlon with another first-place win in the javelin throw with a mark of 119-10 and an 11th-place finish in the 800-meter run in 2:38.93.

Leander Ernest recorded the top finish for the Bears at the Sea Ray Relays with a fifth-place finish in the 800-meter dash in a personal-best and regional qualifying time of 2:09.24.

Another top performer for Missouri State was Genna Williams who placed 12th in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.04.

The University of Tennessee Sea Ray Relays continue Saturday, April 14, with the first event scheduled for 9:15 a.m. and the last event set to begin at 5:45 p.m.
